The Saturday Food Pantry originated as the Old Town Soup Kitchen in summer 2000, when Old Town started to distribute groceries and a ready-made meal using a licensed kitchen nearby and a local parking lot with a trailer. Now the Food Pantry is located on the Old Town property, using the H building that can store 2 ½ truckloads of food and other products. The H building also has a walk-in freezer and cooler to keep food at the right temperatures for storage. The Food Pantry has never missed a Saturday since its inception, and it provides food to local communities. Working with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, the Food Pantry serves 150 – 300 families each Saturday with food and other products. The Saturday operation is a community effort, as many local schools, churches, and other organizations come every year to help serve the community.
